Infographic - Global Warming
Project Overview
This project involved designing an information graphic on climate change in Canada, using data visualization and illustration to communicate the environmental, social, and health impacts of global warming. The infographic transforms complex scientific data into an engaging and accessible visual narrative that highlights how climate change is already affecting Canada.
The final piece was designed and executed in Adobe Illustrator, following a structured process of research, planning, sketching, and refinement.
The Challenge
Climate change data is often dense, technical, and difficult for a general audience to absorb. The challenge was to organize large amounts of information—including statistics, timelines, and cause-and-effect relationships—into a single infographic that is visually engaging, informative, and easy to navigate.
Another key challenge was ensuring the information felt urgent but understandable, without overwhelming the viewer.
Goals & Requirements
Communicate key climate change impacts specific to Canada
Translate scientific data and statistics into clear visual elements
Use illustration, icons, and charts to support understanding
Establish strong visual hierarchy and flow
Create a cohesive and dynamic infographic using Adobe Illustrator
Research, Planning & Process
The project began with research into climate change trends in Canada, including rising temperatures, extreme weather events, health impacts, ocean acidification, and melting glaciers. I then created mind maps to organize the information and identify key themes.
From there, I developed thumbnail sketches and rough layouts to explore different compositions and ways to group information visually. This planning stage helped determine how the data would be broken into sections and how viewers would move through the infographic.
The Concept & Design
The final infographic uses illustration-driven storytelling combined with data visualization to emphasize the emotional and environmental impact of climate change.
Central illustration: A melting Earth character serves as the focal point, symbolizing rising global temperatures and environmental stress.
Color palette: Muted greens, blues, and warm tones reflect nature while reinforcing the theme of warming and environmental imbalance.
Icons and charts: Used to represent temperature increases, extreme weather, health effects, and environmental changes.
Canadian focus: Maps, statistics, and text specifically highlight climate change effects across Canada.
Visual flow: Information is divided into clear sections, guiding the viewer from causes to impacts and long-term consequences.
Outcome & Learning
